Apologetic Short Take #3: Direct Access to God

The veil was torn. The Holy of Holies was exposed to all men. The Levitical priesthood has been done away with and we can now confess our sins directly to God in the privacy of our own hearts. We now have direct access to God.

But Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit. And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, rocks were split, tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. (Matthew 27:50-52)

It seems like a logical argument. It seems to makes sense. If the veil between man and the Holy of Holies was torn then a priest is just "imposing" himself between an individual Christian and Christ... right?

Maybe not.

Direct access to the presence of God. Does any religion have the audacity to claim that such a literal interpretation is true? Can a human actually enter the Holy of Holies, stand in the presence of God, point to him and say, "There he is"?
